Dr Nowaczewska tytuł magistra uzyskała w Centrum Studiów Amerykańskich Uniwersytetu  Warszawskiego, na kierunku: Kulturoznawstwo, w zakresie: Studia Amerykanistyczne, Specjalność: polityka amerykańska. Praca pt: Andrew Carnegie – The Prophet of the New Rich Ideal, napisana pod kierunkiem Prof. Krzysztofa Michałka, została obroniona w roku 1997.

W czerwcu 2006 roku na Wydziale Historycznym, Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego, obroniła pracę doktorską, napisaną pod kierunkiem Prof. Krzysztofa Michałka, pt: Prywatna i pozarządowa działalność dobroczynna czy państwo opiekuńcze? Koncepcje zwalczania ubóstwa w Stanach Zjednoczonych w latach 1929-1937.

W 2008 roku, praca została nagrodzona II nagrodą w II edycji ogólnopolskiego konkursu Narodowego Centrum Kultury na najlepszą pracę w dziedzinie: nauki historyczne i pokrewne.

• Ambasady Stanów Zjednoczonych w Warszawie na udział w American Studies Colloquium, “The Fiction of Politics and Politics of Fiction” – Palacky University, Olomouc, Republika Czech (2002);
• Polskiej Akademii Umiejętności, która przyznała jej stypendium fundacji z Brzezia Lanckorońskich na badania archiwalne w Londynie  na rok 2008;
• W roku 2008 otrzymała również możliwość wzięcia udziału w prestiżowym programie Studies of United States Institutes for Scholars Departamentu Stanu USA i Komisji Fulbrighta na New York University zatytułowanego American Civilization.
• W 2009 otrzymała Grant Ambasady USA w Warszawie na publikację monografii, przyznany w 90. rocznicę nawiązania stosunków dyplomatycznych między Polską a USA.
• W 2010 otrzymała Nagrodę Rektora US II stopnia za szczególne osiągnięcia naukowe.
• W latach 2012 i 2013 dzięki grantom przyznanym przez Rockefeller Archive Center, Sleepy Hollow, NY, prowadziła badania zespołów archiwalnych Fundacji Rockefellera, Rockefeller Brothers Fund oraz Fundacji Forda i innych fundacji.

Do zainteresowań naukowych dr Nowaczewskiej należy historia filantropii w Stanach Zjednoczonych, badanie wpływu III Sektora na procesy kształtowania polityki społecznej państwa oraz rola elit związanych z wielką filantropią na społeczeństwo amerykańskie.  Ponadto zajmuje się badaniem relacji między działalnością prywatnych fundacji a polityką zagraniczną kolejnych administracji amerykańskich w okresie Zimnej Wojny, (w szczególności w odniesieniu do wybranych krajów Zachodnich, Ameryki Łacińskiej oraz Europy Wschodniej) oraz zaangażowaniem fundacji w pomoc uchodźcom, przesiedleńcom I naukowcom z obszarów zagrożonych. Wśród zainteresowań znajdują się również stosunki Amerykańsko-Łacińskie, rola Stanów Zjednoczonych na arenie międzynarodowej, amerykańska dyplomacja i pomoc zagraniczna.

Obecnie zajmuje się przygotowaniem monografii nt. historii działalności Fundacji Rockefellera w latach 1913-1962 oraz

Dr Nowaczewska jest członkiem U.S. State Department (Fulbright) Alumni Association, Polskiego Towarzystwa Studiów Amerykańskich (PAAS) i Europejskiego Towarzystwa Studiów Amerykańskich (EAAS), Międzynarodowego Towarzystwa Studiów Amerykańskich (IASA) oraz Polskiego Towarzystwa Historyków (PTH).

ENGLISH VERSION

 

Renata Nowaczewska, Assistant Professor of History and American Studies at Szczecin University, Poland. She has published articles, book chapters on philanthropy in international context, social welfare, foundations and their interactions with the government. Her award-winning book on public and private unemployment relief during the Great Depression discusses the role private foundations and community funds played in cooperation with/ opposition to H. Hoover’s and F. D. Roosevelt’s relief efforts.

Her research interests lie in the history of philanthropy, foreign aid, social history and intellectual history, exchange programs in particular and the role international actors play within broadly defined transnational relations. Her current book project explores the mechanisms of reinforcing/implementing democratic values through the exchange programs and other cultural activities during the Cold War period in select European countries. She has explored the role foundations, Ford and Rockefeller Foundations in particular, played in organizing help to the refugees and escapees from the Eastern Europe.
